The Filmmakers: Rod Gammons

ROD GAMMONS (Music). 1996 opened on a high note for UK based Writer/Producer Rod Gammons having successfully composed his first Full Orchestral Score for a major Hollywood motion picture, a sci-fi thriller entitled "Within The Rock." The score was recorded in London with players from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the movie will e on Worldwide release later this year. Rod has co-written and produced an album with indie-rock band KURV whose single 'Violation' is featured as the closing title track for the movie, together with six other tracks from the album. Rod has recently written and produced the debut single for Avex/Distinctive Records priority R&B signing Elisha LaVerne entitled 'Do Me Right' destined for release in the Summer of 9. Other forthcoming singles recently penned by Rod and due for release this year include 'Ode to Bob Marley' recorded by Aswad, 'I Can Change Your Mind' recorded by Worlds Apart, 'Freak Out' recorded by TSD, 'Your Love is Magic' recorded by Blade and 'Call On Me' recorded by Lee John.

Rod is half of the highly successful dance production team known as 'The Rainmen' and has recently remixed Mark Snow's Number 1 hit theme from 'The X-Files' for WEA and produced 'Mission Impossible' recorded by IMF (Big Life). Rod has recently teamed up with R&B legends David 'Hawk' Wolinski (Rufus & Chaka) and Hamish Stuart (Average White Band/Paul Macartney) to write, produce and develop outstanding new R&B talent. The first product from this unique creative partnership has been the killer track 'Don't Call Me Baby' written with Elisha Laverne. Rod is part of the Writer/Producer team (comprising Rod, Teddy Riley, Jazzie B) featured on the new album by legendary US R&B 'Soul Diva' Cheryl Lynn for Japanese giant AVEX having penned and produced the highly regarded potential singles 'Take Me For A Ride' and 'So Sweet.'

The previous year saw Rod in the UK Chart top 20 for three consecutive months and his work with classic R&B artist Jaki Graham 'Ain't Nobody' topped the U.S. Billboard Dance charts (#1) achieving Gold status in several major world markets and selling over 400,000 units. His first Movie Soundtrack commission, the hugely successful 'Never Ending Story Part 3' contained Rod's song/production "Fire" (performed by German rock artists 'ShyBoy') and Michael Ball's album 'One Careful Owner,' which contained the classic cut 'Leave A Light On' (written by Rod, Brock Walsh & Jon Lind) also achieved gold status in the UK. Early in February 1995 Rod's continuing work as writer/producer for Jaki Graham earned him the #3 European Radio Hit with 'You Can Count On Me,' and another one of Rod's songs/productions with Jaki Graham, the US & UK single 'Absolute E-Sensual' reached #4 in the Billboard Dance Chart. March 95 saw Rod back in the UK national top twenty chart again producing the legendary 10CC classic cut 'I'm Not In Love.'

The highly acclaimed 'Revelation' album by Ultravox, and the European hit single 'I Am Alive' demonstrated Rod's keyboard & programming abilities and rhythm section arranging skills. He wrote and produced the stylish Imagination album, 'Fascination Of The Physical' and singles 'I Like It' & 'Loving Tight' for Sire records USA. His production and remixing work with Oleta Adams on 'The Rhythm Of Life' was the impetus needed to break Oleta onto both radio and the charts in the UK. More hits followed with the Was Not Was classic single 'I Feel Better Than James Brown' and 'Are You OK?' (production and remix), and the European/Australian Virgin Records hit album by Italo Dance artists 'Rococo.' A writer/producer collaboration between Rod and Youth, earned Rod another gold single with the smash hit 'The Italo House Mix.' In the UK a top 30 record followed with Bronski Beat and their single 'Cha Cha Heels.'

Rod's recent writing sessions with Bob Khozouri (writer of 'Stay' for Eternal) and Tony Fennell (writer of 'Voices' platinum album by Kenny Thomas) has led to three recent covers including the killer cut 'Stop' for Lisa Moorish on Go! Discs, and five cuts including the title trace and two singles on Jaki Graham's second album 'Hold On' released in September '95 in Japan.

February 1995 saw Rod producing David Hasselhoff's single 'Dark Side Of My Heart' taken from David's new album being released on Avex UK in December 1996. The production will also be screened in the new Baywatch Nights TV series.

Rod is currently writing with Hawk Wolinski and Hamish Stuart, Kym Mazelle and Worlds Apart, Blade, Ray Hedges and as one of the Rainmen, Rod is working on an album of kicking dance tracks.

In 1988 Rod built Berwick Street Studios in London's Soho recording hits for artists as diverse as PM Dawn, Blue Pearl, Zoe, Primal Scream, The Stereo MC's, The Shamen, The Orb, Lisa Stansfield, David Bowie, Shanice, E17 and many others. Rod has a new extensively equipped 24track Digital studio/production Studio which he operates as a joint venture with Avex Prime Direction International. The new facility is part of the Metropolis studio complex and is packed with Rod's extensive keyboard & outboard FX collection and is used for production, programming, writing, recording and remix projects.
